Hello Pawsh Parents!  In our commitment to transparency, we want to inform you that we recently had a pup come in with a cold/cough that was not showing symptoms at the time. Just as kids pick up bugs from other kids, dogs get dog germs from other dogs.  When pups get sick, they often don’t exhibit symptoms for 3-7 days, but they can still spread the illness to other pups during this period. This makes it challenging for both parents and us to identify who is sick, so we are always vigilant. If we suspect a pup is unwell, we will isolate them and immediately notify the parents.

Rest assured, there is no need for panic, coughs are not fatal. While many dogs can recover on their own, it typically takes longer. There are over-the-counter medications that are effective if used promptly (click link below for OTC meds), but if the cough worsens, it’s best to consult a vet. If your pup seems unwell, please keep them home. Dogs can easily spread germs due to their play style, and coughs can be transmitted through the air. Typically, a cough is just an upper respiratory infection and may not be noticeable when the pup is resting; it becomes apparent when the dog is active and running around.

The pups that got it have been diagnosed, by their vet, with a K9 Cough (Upper Respiratory Infection).  Very common for pups that are around other pups and what we would consider, just a cold.

If you pup has been here in the last couple of weeks, please be mindful of your pup’s health before bringing them to daycare to prevent spreading illness to others. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at 501.404.8862.  Read more about the cough here: https://pawshpark.com/sneezing-coughing/

Thank you
