At Pawsh Park, we pride ourselves on maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all our furry guests. As well as maintain our transparency, we also like to share some of our knowledge to help parents understand things better! Just like humans, dogs can also have their share of germs that may spread when they interact with other pups. We understand that this can be a concern for new pet parents, but rest assured, we have effective measures in place to address this.
Our team is trained to identify any signs of illness in our canine guests. If a pup happens to cough, sneeze, runny stool, or show any symptoms of not feeling well, we take immediate action by isolating them to prevent the spread of any potential bugs. Your pup’s health and safety are our top priorities. Just as kids go to daycare and get sick, the same thing can happen with your pup at daycare.
While it’s natural for dogs to catch a bug or two when they socialize, it’s important to know that most of these bugs are not fatal and can be managed with proper care. The common bugs we come across are the stomach bug and K9 cough. These are just like humans getting a cold with a cough or the stomach ache. In case your pup shows any signs of these, please let us know immediately so we can assist in providing appropriate treatment.
There are many home remedies as well as over the counter meds at your local pet store, but a vet visit could be the best bet if their system doesn’t handle it very well. We can have two dogs with the same symptoms, but both have different severities from it depending on how strong their immune system is. You can also consult your vet for further guidance and please let us know what they tell you.
Understanding Exposure Risks in Common Spaces
Dogs can catch a bug anytime they are around other dogs, which is an important consideration for all pet parents. We often hear from parents who have had their pups fall ill after visiting other facilities, and it’s crucial to recognize that this risk of exposure exists not just at daycares, but also at veterinary offices, dog parks, groomers, and boarding facilities. This widespread risk is precisely why many veterinarians will not allow a dog with a cough into their facility, as the illness is airborne and can easily transfer to other dogs. Often, the majority of parents might not even realize their pup is sick because symptoms can take a few days to manifest. It’s challenging to know if a dog is carrying a bug until symptoms begin to show, making proactive health measures and vigilance essential for every pet parent.
Remember, just like humans, dogs have immune systems too. Regular interactions with other pups can actually help strengthen their immune system over time. Many of our regular visitors have built strong immunity and rarely get sick. It’s usually the new pups who may be more susceptible as their immune systems are still developing. We have pups that come all the time and never get sick!
At Pawsh, we see hundreds of pups each month, and instances of illness are very rare. Our rigorous protocols and attentive staff help keep the vast majority of pups healthy and happy. However, in the rare event of an outbreak, where more than three pups exhibit similar symptoms within a short period, we inform all parents so they can keep a close eye on their furry companions.
If you ever notice any signs of illness in your pup, keep you pup at home, and reach out to us. WE WANT TO STAY IN THE KNOW! We are here to assist you and find the best solution for your pet’s well-being. In such cases, it’s best to keep your pup away from others until they recover to prevent any potential spread.
